Casa Contovello is a 3-bedroom holiday home in a historical village, overlooking Trieste. Contovello is on the karst plateau, 17 minutes away by car or scooter from the seafront in Trieste. The house is over 200 years old and has been lovingly restored with many original features, antique furniture and original art. It is in the main street, 50 meters from the churchyard, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the bay of Trieste, Slovenia, and Croatia beyond. Free parking is available nearby. The house accommodates 5 people in two double bedrooms and one single bedroom. The single bedroom has limited privacy as the master bedroom is accessed through it. There is one bathroom, and one en-suite WC and washbasin. The kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher, and all necessary tableware. There is a small outdoor seating area in the passage to the rear of the house. It is not private, but enjoying a drink there is a good way to meet the friendly locals. Contovello is an enchanting medieval village, comprising a maze of tiny streets, archways and secret passages. The houses are painted in varying shades of pink, yellow, green and terracotta. The nearest shops are in Prosecco, about 10 minutes walk. You will find a mini market, greengrocer, pharmacy, coffee bars, restaurants, florist, fishmonger, hardware store and more. The origin of the name Contovello is unclear but it is thought that it comes from ancient times when wives of fishermen would look out to sea and count the sails of boats returning from fishing trips to check that none had perished (Conto = count; Vello = sails). You can walk down to Miramare Castle and the beach in about 20 minutes, it takes a good deal longer to get back up! Dogs and other pets are welcome at no extra charge. The house has two steep staircases and is on three levels, so it is not suitable for small children or anyone with limited mobility.
