Getting around

It is easy to get around the karst plateau by car, and parking is generally good. There is also a good bus service to most places. Parking is much more difficult in Trieste. Best bet is the underground San Giusto car park. It sometimes gets full, in which case you should head to the multi-storey Silos car park. But it is better to go to Trieste on the bus. Buses come every 20 minutes at peak times and every 30 minutes at other times. The bus stop is only a minute walk from the house, and it takes only 17 minutes to get into the centre of Trieste. The last stop is Piazza Oberdan. You can get on any bus. You can take numbers 42, 44 and 46 to get back up to Contovello from Piazza Oberdan. You need to get off at the second bus stop in Contovello. Bus tickets are available from the tobacconist,  or the machine by the bus stop in Prosecco; 1.40€ for a single trip. When you get on the bus you need to put the ticket in the ticket machine, which stamps it with the date and time. All buses go by Trieste’s central station in case you want to travel further afield by train. You can buy train tickets online from Trenitalia.

You can get to the airport on the bus or train from Trieste, or book a shared transfer service from GoOpti.

You can rent a boat (without a license) from Marina Timavo in Villaggio del Pescatore. Telephone 040 20 98 68 or mobile 340 762 88 93.

There are various places nearby to rent mountain bikes, and eBikes, and you can even rent a vespa in Trieste. There is a bike sharing service in the city.
